julian cope - 'shrine of the black youth'

I like to think there's a dozen or so British musicians (Billy Childish, Mark E Smith, Genesis P Orridge, Mark Hollis, Kevin Rowland, David Bowie et al) who can be described as modern Renaissance men. The breadth of their music, the depth of their knowledge and their fearless pioneering marks them out as men who live for their art and define themselves through it. I'd add Julian Cope to that list for sure. He's highly opinionated but with good reason as he's a clever swine, to borrow a Morrissey lyric. and as such his opinions matter. His music even more so and here's a classic.
