He was the singer/songwriter of perennial John Peel favourites Hefner but of late he's ploughed a lonely furrow as a folk singer. I came across his new album and it's quite a beauty. It's a concept album called "Chants for Socialists" and the title should more or less give away the idea but don't think that it's a ponderous and worthy affair, the result is actually quite ethereal with plenty of light moments and the overall effect is quite uplifting even for those of us who don't share his politics.
